Build on your weaving repertoire with this classic two-color-check runner. In this class, you will learn to use pick-up sticks – a technique that causes the weft to ‘float’ over several warp ends and creates different stitch patterns in the fabric. You will learn how color and texture work together to create this beautiful design. As is always the case with weaving, it can easily be made into a scarf simply by choosing softer yarn and a looser weave sett (reed size). Use your own loom and two pick-up sticks (we have them for purchase) or register early to reserve one of our looms. The pattern is most effective when using two contrasting colors or two different yarns altogether, such as the sample in Rainbow Beach in Sea Grass with SweetGeorgia Merino Silk Fine in Natural. Baah Aspen or our new Ella Rae Lace Merino would make a gorgeous soft scarf.
Advance preparation may be required depending on the class topic. Details will be provided one week in advance or upon sign-up. Each weekly class session includes two hours of hands-on instruction, and extra help outside of class if needed and our time allows (it almost always does!). Yarn for classes must come from Compatto Yarn Salon, and we are always happy to help you choose the best yarn for your class or project. If you have questions about this or any other class, please give us a call at 310-453-2130.
