Join Mary Beth on Wednesdays, February 4, 11, 18 & 25 from 2-4pm. $95 plus materials. Ask for details of homework at time of registration. Students should wear close-fitting clothes and preferred undergarments to the first class for measuring.
How many of you have had the experience of spending weeks or months on a sweater only to have it not fit as you’d like? What if you could tell the designer your exact measurements? And knit a swatch and tell her the gauge instead of trying to match the one in the pattern? Well, with Amy Herzog’s CustomFit program, you can do all that! Mary Beth has test knit a V-neck cardigan in the lovely hand-dyed SweetGeorgia Trinity Worsted and has deemed the pattern absolutely fabulous! The class will begin with taking the 25 measurements necessary for a custom fit. Then, looking at our swatches (made in advance of the first class), we will discuss the qualities that make a good sweater fabric. You can then choose from the six standard templates or make your own choices for a custom design. Once you’ve created your account and input all the details, you can download your pattern and cast on! Subsequent sessions will cover all the details involved in making a beautiful garment–casting on and binding off, increasing and decreasing, picking up stitches, and making buttonholes (if desired)–along with guidance in pattern reading. We have a terrific range of yarns that would make great sweaters–from Rowan Lima to Baah Sonoma to SweetGeorgia Trinity Worsted. But really, if you knew your sweater was going to fit like a dream, wouldn’t you knit it in cashmere? We have hand-dyed Jade Sapphire in two weights, and now the new Lotus Chunky–perfect for our current winter weather.
Advance preparation may be required, depending on the class topic. Details will be provided at least one week in advance or upon sign-up. Each weekly class session includes two hours of hands-on instruction, or more if needed and our time allows (it almost always does!). Yarn for our classes must come from Compatto Yarn Salon, and we are always happy to help you choose the best yarn for your class or project. Classes must have at least three participants in order to run. If you have questions about this or any other class, please give us a call at 310-453-2130.
