Join Mary Beth on Wednesdays, March 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 2-4pm. $125 plus materials. There is homework for this class. Please ask for details at time of registration. Students should wear close-fitting clothes and preferred undergarments to the first class for measuring, and bring a tablet or laptop if you have one.
How would you like to make the best fitting sweater of your life? With Amy Herzog’s CustomFit program, you can! By taking all your measurements, not just your bust, and by knitting your own swatch to determine your gauge, you get a pattern written especially for you. The class will begin with taking the 25 measurements necessary for a custom fit, and evaluating your swatches. (These must be made in advance of the first class.) You can then choose from the standard templates or make your own choices for a custom design, download your personal pattern, and cast on. Subsequent sessions will cover all the techniques needed to make a beautiful garment–increasing and decreasing, seaming, picking up stitches, and making buttonholes–along with guidance in pattern reading. We have a terrific range of yarns that are great for sweaters. The new Juniper Moon Neve would make a fun summer cardi. Hand-dyed yarns like Illimani Royal alpaca and our new Katia Cotton-Merino let a simple pattern speak volumes. But really, if you knew your sweater was going to fit like a dream, wouldn’t you knit it in cashmere? We have four weights to choose from in our new Cardiff chainette, hand-dyed Jade Sapphire, and Lotus Chunky.
Advance preparation may be required depending on the class topic. Details will be provided one week in advance or upon sign-up. Each weekly class session includes two hours of hands-on instruction, and extra help outside of class if needed and our time allows (it almost always does!). Yarn for classes must come from Compatto Yarn Salon, and we are always happy to help you choose the best yarn for your class or project. If you have questions about this or any other class, please give us a call at 310-453-2130.
