Intermediate Weaving – Plaid Scarf

May 19, 2015 @ 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Join Kara on Tuesday, May 19 from 2-7pm. $75 plus materials.

Make your own Burberry-inspired scarf, explore your Scottish heritage, or simply get into checks. You will learn how warp and weft colors blend and interact with each other in this classic woven design. Whether you want to create the perfect travel scarf for yourself, or a one-of-a-kind graduation/college gift, plaid will always be “in”. We recommend choosing 2-3 main colors and 1 accent color to create your own tartan. We will be using the 20” loom to make a 12” wide scarf but the design can be adapted to make a 8” scarf if you want to use one of our looms. Use fingering or sock weight yarn, like Baah Aspen, with a 12.5 dpi reed, and you will need 500-800 yards total.  Or use thicker yarn, like Rowan Lima, with a 7.5 dpi reed and you will need 300-450 yards total.

Advance preparation may be required, depending on the class topic. Details will be provided at least one week in advance or upon sign-up. Each weekly class session includes two hours of hands-on instruction, or more if needed and our time allows (it almost always does!). Yarn for our classes must come from Compatto Yarn Salon, and we are always happy to help you choose the best yarn for your class or project. Classes must have at least three participants in order to run. If you have questions about this or any other class, please give us a call at 310-453-2130.
