Intermediate Weaving – Plaid Scarf

Join Kara on Monday, July 13th from 10-2. $75 plus materials.

Back by popular demand. Make your own Burberry-inspired scarf, explore your Scottish heritage, or simply get into checks. You will learn how warp and weft colors blend and interact with each other in this classic woven design. Whether you want to create the perfect travel scarf for yourself, or a one-of-a-kind graduation/college gift, plaid will always be “in”. We recommend choosing two or three main colors and one accent color to create your own tartan. Have fun designing your own plaid at  www.plaidmaker.com. You can test out color combinations and see how changing the proportions of color can change the whole look of the weave. You will be using your 20” loom to make a 12” wide scarf, or one of our looms to make an 8” scarf. Use fingering or sock weight yarn, like Lang Asia in the sample, with a 12.5 dpi reed, or a thicker yarn, like Rowan Lima, with a 7.5 dpi reed.

Advance preparation may be required, depending on the class topic. Details will be provided at least one week in advance or upon sign-up. Each weekly class session includes two hours of hands-on instruction, or more if needed and our time allows (it almost always does!). Yarn for our classes must come from Compatto Yarn Salon, and we are always happy to help you choose the best yarn for your class or project. Classes must have at least three participants in order to run. If you have questions about this or any other class, please give us a call at 310-453-2130.
